How to Maintain Your Power Tools

Don’t Let Dirt Kill Your Drill

Tools are expensive. A few minutes of maintenance each week can extend their life by years. Here is a simple checklist.

1. Blow it Out

Use an air compressor or canned air to blow dust out of the vents. Concrete dust is abrasive and will destroy the internal electronics eventually.

2. Check the Chuck

If your drill chuck is sticking, a spray of WD-40 or GT85 usually fixes it. Ensure the jaws move freely.

3. Battery Care

Store batteries at room temperature. Extreme cold (van overnight in winter) kills Li-ion cells. If storing long term, keep them at 50% charge, not 100%.
